Founded in Turin in 2007 by professors and engineers from the Politecnico di Torino, with roots in the investigation of the 1999 Mont Blanc tunnel fire, Cantene builds predictive models of how tunnels, buildings, industrial processes and crowds behave in normal and emergency conditions. Fire Safety Engineering is at the core of the business: using CFD and a performance-based approach, the team designs fire strategies and smoke and heat exhaust systems for commercial, industrial and logistics buildings, including the Egyptian Museum of Turin. Cantene also designs ventilation systems and carries out risk analysis for road tunnels and metro lines, with projects from Denmark and Scotland to Brazil, Saudi Arabia and Chile, and models crowd dynamics for major events such as the Nitto ATP Finals. Research partnerships with the Politecnico di Torino and Lund University keep its methods moving forward, and it distributes Thunderhead Engineering’s PyroSim and Pathfinder in Italy and Hungary.
