About

The Fire Safety Engineering group at CSIR-CBRI in Roorkee tests how materials burn: non-combustibility, ignitability, fire propagation, surface spread of flame, smoke density and toxicity index. It also tests the fire resistance of building elements (IS 3614:2021), fire dampers (UL 555), cable firestops (UL 1479, IS 14518), ducts and electrical cables. It carries out industry-funded testing, fire safety audits and MEPF design vetting for hospitals, ONGC and manufacturers. It is recognised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (OSL code 9184204) to test fire resistance of building elements, including fire doors, to IS 3614.
