A Christchurch practice investigating fire origin and cause and peer reviewing other investigators’ findings for insurers and the courts throughout New Zealand and the Pacific. Principal Ken Legat is an IAAI Certified Fire Investigator — a credential the practice states is held by only three people in New Zealand — and holds an Advanced Diploma of Public Safety in fire investigation, having spent 33 years in the New Zealand Police latterly as fire investigation coordinator for the Canterbury CIB. He has completed over 600 investigations and reviews, gives evidence in the High Court, District Court and Coroner’s Court, and addressed the 2009 New Zealand Coroners’ Conference on fatal fire investigation.
