An institute of the University of Porto whose Laboratório de Fumo e Fogo, created in 1993, has been accredited by IPAC to NP EN ISO/IEC 17025 since November 2001 for reaction-to-fire testing of materials across three sectors at once — civil construction, transport, and furniture and decoration. It has also been designated by the IMT as a category A Technical Service under UNECE Regulation 118, the vehicle-interior burning-behaviour regulation, which puts it on the EU’s list of recognised bodies for that regime. Read one caveat carefully: its work on smoke toxicity and smoke density/opacity is carried out outside the accredited scope, as is its fire-behaviour work on plastics. That is the laboratory’s own statement and it matters to anyone relying on the result.
