A Berkeley-based fire consultancy staffed by fire scientists, licensed Fire Protection Engineers and forensic experts, with close ties to UC Berkeley’s combustion and fire-dynamics faculty. It provides building and fire code consulting, performance-based fire protection engineering, fire and smoke modelling and smoke-control system design, alongside fire investigation and wildland-fire modelling — analyses offered as an aid to professional judgement, not a substitute. It is regularly retained as an expert on origin and cause, fire spread and materials flammability: co-founder Chris Lautenberger (PhD, licensed Fire Protection Engineer) has testified at deposition and trial on more than twenty-five occasions in wildland and structure fire litigation, including fires with losses over $100M.
