The TÜV SÜD group runs fire testing from two sites that publish both an address and a scope. TÜV SÜD PSB in Singapore has a fire test laboratory at Tuas that is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited and recognised by the Fire Safety and Shelter Department of the Singapore Civil Defence Force, by the International Maritime Organization, and by fire and housing authorities in Hong Kong and civil defence departments in the Middle East including Dubai and Qatar. Laboratory-scale fire testing establishes fire performance and spread of flame across fabrics and textiles, garments, furniture, furnishings and toys, and the group also runs fire protection testing for rail rolling stock. TÜV SÜD carries out the type testing, batch testing, factory audit and surveillance behind the PSB Product Listing Scheme, which is how fire safety products are listed for use in Singapore. In Switzerland, its Firelab at Basel is accredited to ISO/IEC 17025 (STS 0630) for building materials and has been a recognised Swiss conformity assessment body for construction products since 2009: it classifies fire behaviour to EN 13501-1, determines the VKF fire rating number (Brandkennziffer) that Swiss cantonal fire regulation is written around, and runs ignition testing on polymers. It is currently the practical option for accredited fire testing inside Switzerland — Empa’s fire laboratory passed to VKF ZIP in 2016 and was closed at the end of 2018 as uneconomic in so small a market.
